ABSTRACT

There was published in 1958 1 in the student’s club journal of the Welsh National School of Medicine, what purported to be a short Hippocratic text which had previously been overlooked by scholars and was stated to have been at one stage in the Library of the Church of Santa Eufrasia in Pisa. The journal editor described the author as a special correspondent in New York and the paper had all the outward signs of respectability with references, footnotes and, of course, the editor’s backing. The text of this rare find dealt with many fields, including prognostics, epidemics, aphorisms, in the surgery, fractures and articulations and ancient medicine. The following are some of the words of wisdom from the pen of Hippocrates.
