ABSTRACT
Guthrie (1795–1856) was a famous surgeon of the nineteenth century who was President of the Royal College of Surgeons three times (1833, 1842, 1854) and surgeon to the Westminster Hospital 1827–43. In addition he had a very eventful medical career from the age of 13 until the year 1814 when the last battle of the Peninsula War was fought.
