ABSTRACT

Now that the term 'hertz' is gaining rapid acceptance as the name for unit cyclic frequency in cycles per second, it is time we considered a name for unit radian or 'angular' frequency. It seems natural to choose 'avis' as the name for unit radian frequency in radians per second. This pair of names will point up the fact that the choice of one or the other to indicate frequency is purely a matter of personal taste. Moreover, the German-sounding hertz would be nicely balanced by the French-sounding avis.
