ABSTRACT

The nature of the treatment depends on the nature of the problem. Preventive treatments must be implemented upon detection of the indicator signs of a problem and before performance deteriorates. Sedimentation in a monitoring or pumping well can possibly be controlled by redevelopment using methods described earlier. Methods chosen should be appropriate for the screen and aquifer. The primary method of controlling corrosion is to design properly the well and treatment system to prevent corrosion. Water quality information should be used before design decisions are made. In corrosive environments, stainless steel and plastics are preferred to low- carbon steel, and their specification assures the well operator long-term resistance to corrosion under most conditions. Acetic acids are liquids and quite potent in industrial strength solutions. The acetic solution chosen should be as free as possible of impurities introduced during manufacture. In general, chemicals are added at the wellhead and directed to the static water level via a pipe.
