ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the issues, recommendations, and techniques for well rehabilitation. Management and safety considerations are mentioned first because any well rehabilitation has to be planned first. Maintaining dedicated in-house well rehabilitation teams is a particularly unproductive strategy in planning for well rehabilitation services. The well rehabilitation or pump service activities themselves have to be worked into the flow of site operations. Personnel need to be briefed on the specifics of the current site hazards and operations. Contractors should have a general site safety and hazard communications plan written and on file, and be prepared to make it available to potential clients and insurers. Well rehabilitation even of potable water wells naturally involves a number of physical and chemical risks. The major problem in monitoring applications may be in nested and other multiple completion wells where one well or interval is a problem, while others are not.
