ABSTRACT

Recently, there have been some reports of deteriorated concrete linings in railroad tunnels. In order to protect train tracks from falling debris, the installation of reinforcement structure is proposed, which makes possible the installation work at night without suspending train services. Therefore, this proposal should assume the situations where the reinforcement structure would be left unfinished by some reason. In this study, a numerical analysis was carried out on the safety of trains passing through the tunnel without backfilling being conducted, using the measurement data of pneumatic pressure fluctuation and vibration. The analysis results confirmed that the proposed reinforcement structure maintains sufficient safety even in an unfinished condition and also suggested that it is desirable to install displacement-restricting spacers on the ends of the structure to prevent vibration.
