ABSTRACT

The objective of the paper presented is to pay attention of professors and students, engineers and designers to progressive modern theory and new effective methods of tunnel linings investigation and design. The basic principle in modern theory of underground structures is that of joint contact interaction of the rock mass and the lining taking into account the lining and the rock mass as elements of a common deformable "rock-support" system. All results of the theory are in a good agreement with experimental investigation including full-scale measurements moreover that agreement appears in not particular but in overall. The theory of underground structures is not only theory but also dozens of important underground structures that have been constructed using the methods based on the theory and exploited during 20 and more years.
