ABSTRACT

Tunnel excavation in an aquifer rock mass modifies water pressure which generates deformations and surface displacements. The amplitude and shape of surface displacements are related to a large number of parameters which characterise the rock mass, the aquifer, the tunnel and their interactions. A weak procedure is used in this paper to simplify the basic equations. The simplified equations serve to predict surface displacement behaviour for varying anisotropy ratios, rock mass dimensions and tunnel properties.
