ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the support systems that must be in place to facilitate modern project management. It provides recommendations for implementing modern project management by way of a case study example of an actual implementation project. To maintain a competitive edge as well as a favorable bottom line, many organizations have found it necessary to develop a project planning and control system (PP&CS) which fully supports their style of managing projects. The process represents the overall methods and procedures by which projects are planned and controlled. Simply stated, a PP&CS includes the process, information system, and trained personnel necessary for effective project planning and control. Another way of viewing the process is that it represents the way an organization does business and therefore is the foundation of the PP&CS. The other components facilitate implementation of this process by providing the framework of the PP&CS.
