ABSTRACT

The issues that must be considered in detailed planning of an environmental remediation project are multidisciplinary in nature; therefore, a project should be planned by a multidisciplinary team. One of the most difficult problems faced in assembling a project team is finding skilled individuals who are available to fill the various project positions. Another way to approach geographically distributed teams is to have the project manager plan out each of the tasks and then provide copies to the respective task managers. The major tasks associated with the project stages are often identified in guidance documents for whichever regulatory program is driving the project. With the advent of wide area networks, e-mail and centralized databases project managers can retrieve the resumes of individuals who have particular skill sets. Once the major tasks are identified, the skills sets required are usually apparent.
