ABSTRACT

The iron oxide pigments which is one of the main raw materials of paint industry has an increasing demand in recent years. However, Turkey does not occupy a place in the market since it is not paid due care to this material. This study investigates within standards whether the Küre Bakibaba iron oxide ores are suitable for being pigment raw materials. The concentration experiments have been conducted dominantly by Permanent Magnetic Roll Separator (Permroll) whereas wet magnetic separation and flotation techniques were applied for the fine size ranges that Permroll was ineffective. After the concentration, products were submitted to quality control processes including calcination process, color analysis and complete chemical analysis. It has been found out that the iron oxide ores in the region can be processed as pigment raw material having suitable specifications for world and Turkish standards.
