ABSTRACT

Steel will remain as the basis for economic development in the world. The blast furnace process is and will remain dominant as the basis of steel production. Coke supply must be assumed to cover the demand of blast furnace operation in a cost-effective,environmentally friendly and future-oriented way. Based on the assumption that approx. 70 % of the cost for coke production is spent for coal, the possibilities of optimizing coking coal blends under utilization of low-cost blendable components should be given priority. The paper presents the advanced coke-making technologies and their requirement for the coking coal blend preparation and optimization.
