ABSTRACT
Initial studies show that the weed Rumex vesicarius (Polygonaceae) produces two different seed types, which vary in their germination requirements depending on age and ecotype. Light appears to be the most important environmental factor promoting germination. The fruiting perianth inhibits germination and salinity induces secondary dormancy in the dark.
