ABSTRACT
4-(4′-nitrobenzyl) pyridine in diethyl phthalate reacts with traces of phosgene to produce a brilliant red color. The addition of an acid acceptor such as N-phenylbenzylamine stabilizes the color and increases the sensitivity. The absorbance is determined at 475 nm (1–3).
