ABSTRACT

The authors have studied the mechanical behaviour of natural joints in granodiorite. These joints have been extracted from conventional cores and they are naturally cemented and filled by thin or thick layers of calcite. They have been tested by pseudo-static cyclic direct shear tests fully computer controlled. Despite the fact that these tests are 2D, they have been performed using a 3D direct shear box allowing to measure displacements and forces in two orthogonal directions of the plane of the joint. After presenting the experimental data, a synthesis will be presented in the framework of constitutive parameters, which is a first step for modelling the mechanical behaviour of jointed media.
