ABSTRACT
In this chapter we introduce and study functions on ℝ n of bounded variation, which is to say functions whose weak first partial derivatives are Radon measures. This is essentially the weakest measure theoretic sense in which a function can be differentiable. We also investigate sets E having finite perimeter, which means the indicator function χ E is BV.
