ABSTRACT

HA-coating crystallinity may affect the proliferation of isolated cells grown on the coating. We have implanted in rabbit femurs, metal cylinders coated with HA ceramic having high (100%) or low (40–48%) crystallinity. The surface in contact with bone tissue, the density of the bone close to the coating and the coating thickness were evaluated depending on time. No difference could be shown between the values of these parameters for each type of coating. In this study the coating crystallinity did not have an influence on the osseointegration.
