ABSTRACT

In the planning system for a new product, the market needs predominate. With information based upon market research, or data from the marketing and sales departments of the firm, the 'general specifications' of a new product are established. When ideas for the product are proposed for the market commodity, the 'technical specifications' can be determined by the creative abilities of product research and development (R & D), thus leading to the final design. Design tools such as quality function deployment can be used to trade off between market requirements and the realities of achievable design and manufacturing characteristics. When a new product is invented a patent should be taken out. The patent for the newly invented product is one of the industrial properties. If a product sold at the market has caused personal/physical damages during its use, product designers/companies have to assume legal responsibility- product liability.
