ABSTRACT

Responsible specialty adhesive companies emphasize a systems approach. It includes adhesive selection plus four application considerations: Cleanliness of parts as shown by the adhesive’s ability to wet them; Proper application; Quality assurance and Safety. Automatic dispensers generally consist of a pumping system, a valve, and an application head. The positive displacement pump system varies its output by means of a variable piston stroke. Complete systems can be put together with the dispensing pumps, heads, and parts handling equipment. Air stabilized or anaerobic formulas are ideal materials for application to threaded parts by tumbling. The thread locking material can be added by either weight or volume. Some adhesive manufacturers prepackage liquids or pastes in quantities specifically for a one-drum-load application. Application of the Type VI materials is usually done by independent converters who are expert in handling large volumes of fasteners in a precise process.
