ABSTRACT
The concept of a ‘group’, and in particular the idea of a ‘transformation group’, is of fundamental importance in geometry. We do not attempt a systematic treatment of group theory, which is better left to an algebra text, but instead limit ourselves to giving some essential definitions necessary for the most important geometric examples.
