ABSTRACT

In this paper the geotechnical features of sagging of mountain slopes („Talzuschübe“) and mountain splitting areas („Bergzerreissungsfelder“) are evaluated. Especially the phenomenon of sagging slopes has negative effects on various engineering structures such as tunnels, check dams, road cuttings and reservoirs. The results of different research projects in Austria are presented considering the geological-geotechnical conditions, the time dependent behaviour, the influence of external factors and the kind of the creeping-sliding processes of such deep-seated mass movements.
