ABSTRACT
Handlovská kotlina basin belongs to the areas with the highest occurrence of slope movements in Slovakia. 48% of the total area is affected by slope deformations. This phenomenon is markedly reducing the possibility of land use in this area. The well known catastrophic landslide, at the turn of the year 1960, which destroyed part of Handlová city arouse the interest of experts. It is necessary to make prognoses concerning the slope movement for future development of the area. The modern methods of the regional slope movement evaluation and prognosis are based on effective use of analytical GIS tools.
