ABSTRACT

The more abrupt rock slope of the cliff where Mythimna Castle is founded is situated on the southern side of the castle and the instability poses mainly a significant threat for the houses sited immediately down slope. Rock fall episodes occurred in the past, following intense rainfall. The predominant type of kinematic instability is of wedge or toppling type of medium-sized blocks. Stabilisation measures were proposed under the scope of minimum interference with the archaeological site.
