ABSTRACT

The task of engaging in man-hour reduction activities becomes much easier when the people involved know the conditions of the workplace inside out. As they recognize the waste in their operations, initiate a system of visual control by seeing waste as either time on hand or stock on hand, and use the kanban system to avoid overproduction, the man-hour reduction activity may take the following form: eliminate waste; redistribute work; and reduce manpower. Thus, any man-hour reduction activity must begin with the analysis of the conditions existing in the workplace with regard to its operations. The purpose of our man-hour reduction activities is to raise the ratio of net operations as closely as possible to 100 percent. Man-hour reduction activities must always focus on reducing the number of workers. When an automatic device is introduced, it may result in a labor saving of 0.9 person.
