ABSTRACT

Brownfields present complex questions of social, political, and economic policy for governments and businesses throughout the world. The expansion of insurance coverage for past and future environmental contamination, coupled with the change in the U.S. regulatory climate, has caused new policies to develop which are designed to provide incentives to businesses to redevelop contaminated properties. In this chapter we take a closer look at brownfields, the opportunities they present, and methods to effectively manage risk along the way.
