ABSTRACT

In most any enterprise, business, science, education, government, or human services, a paradigm of operation can be found. The term and concept of paradigm was popularized in 1962 by Thomas Kuhn in his book, The Structure of Scientific Revolution. In Galileo's time, the prevailing astronomical paradigm on the nature of the universe, was that the earth was the center of activity and the sun revolved around the earth. The prevailing paradigm for structured western education is found in what has been called the banking approach of education. In Kuhn’s perspective, the approach taken in the anomaly begins to push the prevailing paradigm to adjust or shift. The vision of an organization is tied heavily to its focus and the paradigm behind its approach. The most influential roots in a general human services paradigm is driven by the medical model.
