ABSTRACT

The knowledge system may be driven in part by the low-level sensory information, subjected to intelligent preprocessing. In knowledge-based restructuring each overloaded component must be matched with an appropriate under-capacity component. The flexible production system is said to be restructured when the constitution of the workcells changes due to such modified association of components. In the subphase of component releasing a no-activity component should not be treated in the same category as an under-capacity component. Otherwise, infinite looping of load transfer could result during this stage of component releasing. In a blackboard architecture the knowledge sources can be implemented as independent modules, with a common data region, thereby avoiding complicated data passing. The main purpose of the control unit of a blackboard system is to monitor the blackboard and trigger the appropriate knowledge sources in response to a data change in the blackboard.
