ABSTRACT

Level measurement is important both from a process and fiscal viewpoint. The level measurement could be displayed on directly coupled mechanical indicators, or transmitted using transmitting synchros or a slide-wire potentiometer. This technique is widely used by instrument companies such as Whessoe-Varec, which specializes in this method of level measurement. The measuring circuit for many capacitance-type level instruments is a capacitance bridge. The differential-pressure meter can be, and is frequently, used to measure the level in tanks and other process vessels. Level sensors that operate on the basis of a switching action can be divided into two main groups: contacting and contactless. The level in a vessel can be measured using a buoyancy level transmitter. Because of the mechanics of the system, the float-actuated type of instrument is used to determine the level in tall vessels and where the measurement span may be considerable. The measuring circuit for many capacitance-type level instruments is a capacitance bridge.
