ABSTRACT

Based on the Avrami-Johnson-Mehl expression, a model has been developed to describe the ex vivo crystallisation behaviour of calcium phosphate in supersaturated solutions. This model relates various thermodynamic and kinetic factors to the preferential formation of precursor phases and their subsequent stage-wise transformation to hydroxyapatite. The validity of the model is verified by a comparison with experimental data.
