ABSTRACT

Enhancement of boiling heat transfer is utilized in many advanced engineering fields, including energy conservation technologies, such as various types of heat pump systems and waste heat recovery systems, power plants, such as geothermal energy plants, and electronics cooling systems. The pool boiling heat transfer enhancement would be generated by one of the three enhancement mechanisms and their combination. There are various methods of pool boiling heat transfer enhancement that are frequently categorized into either passive methods or active methods. The characteristics of passive methods are using some kinds of structured heat transfer surface without any external power. The generally applicable reentrant cavity should have the hole or tunnel structure with the sharp enlargement of the inlet mouth. As for the enhancement effect of the other structured tubes (such as low fin tubes), the fundamental mechanism of the enhancement would be the same.
