ABSTRACT

The post-Miocene sediments in the N. Red Sea and S. Gulf of Suez are locally deformed by late-rift movements probably relating in part to rejuvenation of earlier Miocene trends. These include regional and local tilting of Miocene blocks and associated diapirism of Middle to Late Miocene evaporites. Plio-Quaternary deformations are recorded by rapid changes in facies and by the presence of numerous discontinuities which often limit sedimentary sequences.
