ABSTRACT

The Tertiary to Recent volcanism in the alkaline volcanic field of the Meidob, in connection with the crustal shearing along the CAFZ and the domal uplift of the Darfur, is characterized by field, petrological and geochemical data, and K-Ar age determinations. The features of the magmatism are similar to other volcanic fields in north Africa (J.Marra, Tagabo Hills, Cameroon line) and traced back to the development of a mantle plume.
