ABSTRACT

The efficiency of analysing the changing stress-deformation conditions in rocks around progressing underground works depends on the application of suitable numerical method. Although the changed geotechnical conditions due to excavation are known for hanging walls, for planning the preparation and winning works with downward excavation the conditions of footwall are also indispensable. The paper describes the system and results of simulated coal excavation in different phases, using the finite element method. With these results we analysed the corresponding stability of mine roadway in changed stress-deformation conditions with the finite difference method. The comparison of measured and calculated wall movements of mine roadway showed an acceptable difference. This is the proof that the applied method is suitable for solving of similar problems.
