Quantification of the effective Coulomb and the Hoek-Brown parameters of the pre-reinforced rock mass

Our premise is that rock mass pre-reinforcement is equivalent to improving the strength of the rock mass by providing an additional confining pressure. The formulations of Coulomb and Hoek-Brown admit the effective cohesion, c, and effective s. The correspondence between the two formulations is shown. The calculation of effective c and s is illustrated through an example.
