ABSTRACT

Discussed in the present paper is the method in which the discrete element analysis is applied to the study of ground surface movement caused by underground mining activities and a practical case of Jinshandian Iron Mine is given where this method is employed. In analysing, emphases are placed on the prediction of the law of ground surface deformation according to the concerned parameters obtained from back analyses on the in-situ measured deformation information, thus providing scientific basis for the later-period plan of the Mine. In addition, some details in calculation are described and studied such as computing model, principal to determine mechanical parameters and method to simulate initial geostress field, excavation and filling.
