ABSTRACT

The surface subsidence produced by longwall and bord & pillar excavations was modelled using two dimensional discontinuum models. The panels from collieries of SCCL were chosen for the purpose of calibrating the numerical models. The site specific physcio-mechanicl properties of intact rock and joints were determined in the laboratory and incorporated in the models. One model was used as a calibration model for the estimation of parameters. The estimated parameters were used in other models with high degree of prediction accuracy. The paper describes study on three twin longwall panels at SCCL at three different collieries and one case of bord and pillar with multiple seam extraction.
