ABSTRACT

Psychodrama allows many aspects of a person to be represented and to have dialogues. But someone who laid all the stress on the internal conflicts rather than on the external conflicts was the inventor of Gestalt therapy, Fritz Perls. Perls made a general practice of having an empty chair beside him, in individual or group therapy, on which to place the various members of our internal world. This makes it easy for us to talk to them, and let them talk to us, or to each other. Something that often comes out is a topdog and an underdog.
