Positive and Negative Philosophy

IN the decade following Hegel's death, European thought entered an era of 'positivism.' This positivism announced itself as the system of positive philosophy, taking a form quite different from that which later positivism assumed. Comte's Cours de philosophic positir1e was published between 1830 and 1842, Stahl's positive philosophy of the state between 1830 and 1837, and Schelling began in 1841 his Berlin lectures on the positive Philosophic that he had been elaborating ever since 1827.
