ABSTRACT

There are many cases when the wear on a shoe is minimal or when the wear characteristics have simply not been retained well in the impression. The combination of the heel being either supinated or pronated at heel strike along with the amount of toe-in or toe-out, along with lower leg flexibility, ankle flexibility, and other factors all contribute to the specific location and angle of wear on the heel of each shoe. Although each person has a particular foot type and use, and may even wear her or his shoes for a specific function, the exact wear on one's shoes at any point in time is the result of the sum of all the influencing factors up to that time. As pressure is exerted by the foot within the shoe, the areas of the outsole directly beneath the weight-bearing areas of the foot will wear more quickly than other areas.
