ABSTRACT

The Performance characteristics of diaphragms may be obtained quickly by using the dimensionless Performance ratios. When plotted against the corresponding deflection ratios, the designer may obtain and compute the desired Performance data. The stress intensity on a corrugated diaphragm for deflection ratios may also be computed from the dimensionless Performance stress ratio. Performance dimensionless ratios for diaphragms have been discussed for round flat diaphragms and flat rectangular diaphragms. A comparison of the ratios of flat and corrugated diaphragms illustrates very dramatically the superiority of corrugated diaphragms over flat diaphragms in deflection and linearity characteristics. The dimensionless Performance stress ratio increase is advantageous in the design of low-range strain gage pressure transducers. A device of this type with a range of 0.05 psi has been patented by Micro Gage, Inc., of El Monte, California.
