ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the implementation of diagnostic residual generators by parity equation. It shows the different parity equation formulations that how they can be applied to implement a single residual specification. The chapter investigates the exact implementation of a single residual, using the various parity relation formulations. It describes what can be done with parity relations within the strict input-output transfer function framework. The chapter presents a systematic procedure of stable implementation. It shows that with some constraint on the specified responses, polynomial implementation is still possible. The chapter also presents a direct procedure to implement the minimum complexity generator. It explores the properties of the fault/disturbance system matrix. The chapter transfers the function based implementation techniques. Parity equations are residual generators which generate the residuals by the direct manipulation of the plant observables.
