ABSTRACT
It is widely recognized and accepted by industry and regulatory bodies alike that mining and mineral processing activities create damage to the surrounding land, air, and water that cannot be reversed by nature, but requires the aggressive application of carefully planned restoration programs. Moreover, experience and scientific research are continually identifying new problems and developing methods for avoiding and correcting both potential and historical environmental damage.
