ABSTRACT

The economy of Florida may grow, crest, or decline depending on the renewable and non-renewable resources that become available elsewhere in the world. This chapter uses two simple computer simulation models to show how the future of Florida and the world may be affected by the environmental resources in Florida and fuel sources of the world. Simulation considers the alternative of continued world growth and a world scenario of rise and decline with available fuel reserves. The assets of the global economy depend on the availability of renewable and non-renewable resources worldwide. When the world's resources are abundant, the things that people in Florida want to buy are inexpensive. Water resources are restored to a level that was characteristic of earlier steady-state times before the pulse of growth. Trade was arranged between the world and Florida models to dramatize the relationships between a state and the world.
