ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at a structured approach to testing using a model well-suited to managing the risks of the convergence environment. Testing is an often-overlooked and underestimated facet of systems development. The V-Model of testing provides a structured testing framework throughout the netcentric systems development process; it emphasizes quality from the initial requirements stage through the final testing stage. Testing is designed to ensure that the components of the application are properly constructed, put together correctly, and that they deliver the functional, technical, and quality requirements. Effective testing improves the quality of the solutions delivered to the customer and, ultimately, the success of the business change. The testing process requires more communication and coordination among work cells or teams than any other process. The V-Model approach to testing requires developers to consider testing challenges from the start of the development effort.
