ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a comprehensive discussion of change management principles. Opportunities to dramatically improve the performance of businesses are being found by focusing on human performance within companies. New forms of human resource management, new forms of enablement and training, organization design, journey navigation — all these are important developments in management theory. The chapter looks at change management in terms of its ability to help the people of an organizations assimilate — accept and take advantage of — new technology. Information systems (IS) professionals operated under the assumption that the focus of change was on the system user. IS professionals must expect to initiate a change management program that is integrated with their systems development projects. A netcentric or client/server development team is a change agent in itself. User involvement helps ensure that the system satisfies management expectations.
