ABSTRACT

One o f the two most important chemical characteristics o f enamines is the nucleophilic nature o f the 3 -carbon atom, which makes this atom very susceptible to electrophilic attack [1 ], (The second important chemical characteristic is the electrophilic character o f the a-carbon atom in an iminium ion, making that atom a good target for nucleophilic attack; see Chapter 6 ) . An incoming electrophile has two sites fo r possible attack: the nitrogen atom and the 3 -carbon atom. The topic o f electrophilic substitution o f enamines has been reviewed recently [2 - 4 ] .
