ABSTRACT

In chapter three , we learned how individual differences in abilities, motivations, and situational expertise can be used to predict people’s later behaviors. Applied psychologists use such predictions to make decisions about how to treat people with disorders, who to select for jobs, schools, and juries, and how to approach behavior change. For example, openness and environmental stewardship are positively correlated, such that stewardship behaviors can be predicted from measures of openness. We could use this information to select people high in openness as future employees for our Enviro-company startup.
