ABSTRACT

This chapter explores Radio Microphones and Guitar Systems. Radio mics and guitar transmitter packs have been used by gigging musicians, although the quality can vary substantially depending on the manufacturer, the technology, budget, and the operating frequency. Radio systems work most reliably when the transmitters and receivers are in line of sight. As transmitters are moved around, radio-wave reflections from walls or metal frames cause phase cancellation those results in signal drop-outs. Some guitar-link radio systems have switchable cable emulation, but to work correctly these must be on the input to the transmitter, not on the receiver. A guitar system receiver would normally sit on top of the amp, with a Velcro strap. The final critical aspect of setting up a guitar or voice wireless system is the adjustment of the transmitters gain control to avoid overloading the transmitter and. For guitar systems, the receiver's output level may also be adjustable to match the amplifiers or pedals input sensitivity.
