ABSTRACT

When, in June 1912, the Republican National Convention did not nominate him for President, Theodore Roosevelt led the effort to form the Progressive Party and offer an alternative slate of candidates for national office. At the Progressive Party’s National Convention, on August 6, 1912, Roosevelt gave this speech at the Chicago Coliseum accepting the party’s nomination for President. While he was not elected President, he received more votes than President William Howard Taft, the Republican nominee.
