ABSTRACT

Ten years ago an innovative collaboration between Kent EarlyYears and Childcare Partnership (EYDCP), and Learning through Landscapes (LTL), a well-respected national charity, resulted in the first edition of this book.Written for LTL, as a testimony to the success of the Space to Grow project, the book charted the journey made by practitioners in Kent as they sought to develop and improve their use of the outdoor environment for children’s play learning and development. The developments and improvements within the project focused on increasing children’s access to outdoors, improving the quality of their play and learning experiences, and overcoming lower levels of confidence and enthusiasm for outdoor learning amongst early years practitioners. The processes of improving practice, overcoming challenges and identifying solutions have stood the test of time and remain relevant to practitioners today. However, other aspects of the first edition, such as the curriculum references, have been superseded and are now less useful.
